Hey lovely people,
I have had a very full week and just felt like experimenting with a short unedited video instead of writing anything. Hmm, not sure, but committed to #keeppracticing and Substack has a lot to practice! Plus, it’s fun to try new things. This week, Turning Over Tables is centered on one of my most favorite words, actions, intentions: cultivate. It’s why I changed my title at The Refuge a few years ago to Co-Founder and Community Cultivator because it better aligned.
It means “fostering the growth of.” Without intention, certain just things won’t grow or come to be. The pull toward the status quo is too strong. In order to support and foster growth and change, we need to provide some extra love, attention, practice, and nurturing that direction.
Cultivating with, wisdom, webs, living systems, and creativity are all part of this last week. I only touch on a few of them in this short video, but they are all intertwined.
Also, it’s almost Holy Week and the wrap of Turning Over Tables. I’m hoping to share a few extra things this week because this week illuminates a lot of deeper truths about humans, sociological structures, faith, and the constant cycling back to what feels safer and more predictable. Palm Sunday is also the perfect one for revisiting a topic that I’ve been pounding to the ground for over 15 years—our addiction to kings. Currently, I am not sure we could have a better real-life-today example of what this looks like and how completely contrary it is to Jesus.
Meanwhile, no matter if you are person of faith who is into this season or in a totally different space, here’s to creatively cultivating more with, wisdom, and webs in the days, weeks, and months ahead.
We need them in all the ways.
With you,
